This call for evidence from the Department for Education (DfE) was intended to inform a review of the Early Career Framework (ECF) and initial teacher training (ITT) Core Content Framework (CCF), both published in 2019. The ECF set out the entitlements to professional learning and mentor support for the first two years of a teacher’s career, alongside a framework to underpin what they ‘learn about’ and ‘learn how to do’. The CCF defined the minimum content that must be provided by all teacher training programmes. The call explains that evidence supplied was to be used to inform a new, single, combined framework setting out teachers’ ITT and ECF entitlements. The new combined Initial teacher training and early career framework (DfE, 2024) was implemented from September 2025.
